Is your landline as useless as ours? I recently reviewed several days voicemails and realized that all but 1 of several dozen voicemails were scams or solicitations. That’s really discouraging.  Not to mention the calls from “Medicare” or “Social Security”  or even “CVS” calling to “check on your information.”

Medicare, IRS and Social Security NEVER CALL

Just as a reminder to everyone, especially our older subscribers, Medicare NEVER calls your home. Social Security NEVER calls your home. The IRS NEVER calls your home. Those calls are always scams. I also find it a bit discouraging that so many people appear to be trying to earn a living by false representation in order to get, for example, a Medicare number that can then be used to place fraudulent orders for durable medical equipment and so forth that eventually shows up on the subscriber’s Medicare reports.

Scam Calls on Cell Phones

The onslaught of fake calls with spoofed originating numbers is not, however, restricted to landlines. We have seen this escalate rapidly on our cell phones. The defense, of course, is to send all the uncertain incoming calls to voicemail.

Loss of Direct Use of Phones

Isn’t it a shame, though, that the scam calls are effectively robbing us of the direct use of our telephones, whether land lines or cell phones, since we have to push effectively all unknown callers to voicemail. Though, on occasion, playing with a caller who insists he is from Medicare can offer some momentary diversion, I really wish the fraud detection software would at last be upgraded to block spoofed calls.
