It’s about to be fall and time for updated seasonal immunizations.
Influenza vaccine
Everyone should get this year’s influenza vaccine. There is essentially no influenza risk for another month or so, so best times to get it are in October and early November, which allows longer coverage for the later winter and spring, when influenza will assuredly still be with us. And don’t forget you can still get quite ill with influenza.
Covid-19 vaccine
Pretty much every adult 50 and older should be getting the updated Covid-19 vaccine. And younger adults with any type of chronic condition should consider it as well. This fall’s vaccine is reasonably though not perfectly targeted to the current variant circulating. But it will add to your protection. Moderna and Pfizer again have comparable vaccines available. Your pharmacy may have one or the other. I don’t think it matters.
You should get your Covid-19 vaccine now or in October. More indoor activity increases risk. There is now no reason to delay. CDC says you can get both flu and Covid vaccines on the same day, but they preferably should be in different arms or the injection sites at least 1” apart.
Remember that Covid-19 remains a potent illness with substantial symptoms and sometimes long-lasting symptoms (long Covid) for which we don’t have good treatment.
